After we are done unwrapping our presents, finishing our exchanges, and bringing in the New Year, there is an awkward time in fashion where the magazines are telling us to wear one thing, while the weather forecaster is telling us to wear another. In Los Angeles, it is ultra-confusing. Spring lines have already been launched, and it is 75 degrees out, yet I still want to honor the fact that it is the end of December, and I want to wear my boots and cardigan without sweating....is that too much to ask?!? Or, if you are reading this from a slightly colder climate, but are frustrated because the fashion mags have already moved onto Spring, don't be frustrated anymore. Here are a couple ideas to start you shifting into the sunny season!
The Maxi dress. It works wonders. It gives off the illusion of flowing, free-spirited spring time, yet you are still covered. Here's an idea: if you are in an ultra cold environment, you can layer tights on underneath your dress. This way you can still stay warm while giving off the vibe that you are ready for next season! As well, with a maxi dress, try a fitted blazer or street-chic leather jacket for more warmth. Warning: stay away from the "grandpa cardigan" or anything else billowy with the maxi...you want to scream "chic", not "homeless". Since the maxi dress has no structure, pair a structured jacket with it to keep it clean.

Long sleeve/cocktail skirt combo. Love this! Amber Lancaster pulls this off perfectly. The sweater suggests that it still might be a bit nippy out, yet the short skirt is ready for spring. The neutral colors (black, white and cream) are PERFECT seasonal transition colors because they are season-less. For more coverage in colder environments, feel free to pair black tights with this combo, or a fitted blazer. Since the skirt has so much volume, it's be wise to keep the top fitted.

Wide leg pant/tucked in blouse/ cropped jacket combo. This is a great look because it is so clean and timeless; it is acceptable between or in any season. The wide leg pant offers great coverage in the cold, yet the cropped jacket offers some indication of warmer weather approaching since it does not fully cover the arm. The neutral beige, white and brown are great colors year round, while the pink color of the jacket announces that spring has sprung.
